***Notes re: original agreement being amended: (Declaration notified to the Organization on 29 February 1968 under the signature of the Ambassador): I have the honour to refer to... the deposit of the instrument of acceptance of the Convention of 15 May 1961 placing the International Poplar Commission within the framework of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. I am instructed by my Government to inform you that... the Convention placing the International Poplar Commission within the framework of the Food and Agriculture Organization also apply to Land Berlin. On 3 October 1990, the German Democratic Republic acceded to the Federal Republic of Germany. As a consequence, the German Democratic Republic has ceased to exist. In a message of the same day addressed to Heads of State and Government, the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany stated: Now that German unity has been established, we shall discuss with the contracting parties concerned the international treaties of the German Democratic Republic with a view to regulating their continued application, adjustment or expiry, taking into account protection of confidence, the interests of the states concerned and the contractual obligations of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as the principles of a free, democratic basic order governed by the rule of law, and respecting the competece of the European Community.
