At the 51st Annual Meeting of the International Whaling Commission held in St George's, Grenada, 24-28 May 1999, the following amendments were adopted to the Schedule of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling (changes in bold type):

Paragraph 13(b)(4)

Delete 1996/97 to 1998/99 and replace with 2000 to 2002.

Add the following text at the end of the paragraph:

It is forbidden to strike, take or kill calves or any humpback whale accompanied by a calf.

Since no changes were made to the provision for zero catch limits for commercial whaling with effect from the 1986 coastal and the 1985/86 pelagic seasons, the following amendments are also necessary:

Paragraphs 11 and 12, and Tables 1, 2 and 3

Substitute the dates 1999/2000 pelagic season, 2000 coastal season, 2000 season, or 2000 as appropriate.

These amendments become effective with respect to each Contracting Government ninety days following the date of this letter, in accordance with Article V of the Convention, unless any Contracting Government lodges an objection, in which case the procedure under Article V, paragraph 3 of the Convention will be followed.

The ninety days period will expire on 9 September 1999. In the absence of objections by that date the amendments will become effective. Contracting Governments will be notified accordingly.
