The Embassy of the United States of America presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and has the honor to request an extension of the Agreement between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the People’s Republic of China concerning Fisheries off the Coasts of the United States, with annex, signed at Washington July 23, 1985, as amended and extended (the Agreement).
The Embassy proposes, on behalf of the Government of the United States of America, that the Agreement, which is currently scheduled to expire on July 1, 1996, be extended for an additional two year period, until July 1, 1998. If this proposal is acceptable to the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Embassy proposes that this note and the Government of the People’s Republic of China’s favorable note in reply shall constitute an agreement between the two Governments, which shall enter into force on a date to be determined in a subsequent exchange of diplomatic notes following the completion of all necessary internal procedures of both parties.
The Embassy of the United States would like to take this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the assurances of its highest consideration.

In paragraph 1, line 3 of the English text, “...and has the honor to REQUEST AN EXTENSION...” is translated as “...and has the honor to REFER to...”]
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, on behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, confirms its agreement to the content of the above note, and renews assurances of its highest consideration.
